Power has been restored to approximately 8,000 Manitoba Hydro customers in north Winnipeg.

Melting snow mixed with the dirt and grime of spring to create a short circuit that caused two Hydro poles to catch fire around 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

Hydro spokesperson Anthony Koop said power went out between the Red River, McPhillips St., Leila Ave. and Inkster Blvd. Crews restored power around 12:45 p.m.

The Aberdeen Ave. power outage was one of four last night. Crews were responding to a power outage on Berry St. that left 400 customers without power when they got the call about the fires on Aberdeen.

Power also briefly went out in parts of Fort Garry and the West End.
