18-inch crack in beam closes N.E. Iowa bridge

Black Hawk Bridge will be closed at least through next week as crews repair an 18 inch crack found Wednesday in the floor beam.

The crack wouldn’t cause the bridge to collapse, but it requires immediate repair, said Mitch Dillavou, director of the engineering bureau at the Iowa Department of Transportation.

“There’s still damage to it, and damage can cause more damage,” he said.

Supplies will arrive Monday to repair the crack, which is just wide enough to allow sunlight through. Crews will continue an inspection through Friday, and if no other damage is found, the bridge should be open at the end of next week.

I just know things are bad when a mainstream article such as this contains only a single, lame Establishment Excuse.  Thanks, Waveguide!

I used to live near this bridge. Always wondered when it would begin to go... looks like not long now.  It is a pretty significant bridge, as the next crossing is down in Prairie du Chein, about a 30 minute drive, or upstream at La Crosse, also a 30 minute drive!!  Hope no one has to commute over that bridge, or they will be disappointed.

@Alison, I think the 18" is long, not wide. :)

A structure can only collapse if it is compromised! Being a layman and not knowing what extrernal factors influenced the bridge beam to crack I however believe a crack prooves the bridge HAS been compromised!

If one observes the effect of PX on our Solar System, the Magnetic dance of the Earth (quakes, tremmors),etc I believe the external factors have been found but HUSHED!

We are moving into a new phase at an excellerated pace! Due to the cover-ups the masses look without seeing and fail to react.

Wondering if the CME (en mass) is having an effect on the phyci of mankind, it is as if we are reaching a "Critical Mass" reaction. A state of total confusion, one just prior to trauma, thus aggrivating the trauma...?

"just wide enough to allow sunlight through..." ??? 18" is wide enough to let a tire fall through, I'd say.
