IPOH: A sinking ground nearby several houses in Taman Menglembu Berlian, is causing residents to fear for their safety.
Resident Chai Yoon Khong, 33, said he was worried that his house might collapse as the affected area, which was just 20m away, has become wider.
“The cracks on ground have reached outside my house.
“The land might collapse at anytime,” he told reporters who visited him, recently.
Chai, who has been renting the house for a year, said the situation started with the collapse of a monsoon drain wall beside his house, around a month ago.
“Trees and an electrical pole also collapsed as the ground continued to sink,” he said.
He added that frequent rain in the last five days might expedite the erosion of the land.
His neighbour Kam Saw Mooi, 40, said she could not sleep in peace on days it rained heavily.
“All of our houses will be affected if the erosion continues,” she said.
Menglembu assemblyman Lim Pek Har, who was present during the visit, said she would alert the Ipoh City Council (MBI) about the aggravating situation.
“I hope the council will immediately carry out rectification works before the problem gets worse,” she said.
MBI could not be reached for comments.
