India: Land slips at Bandi- Huge cracks appeared and land at several places in our area is slipping

Baramulla, Feb 7: Residents of Naie-Basti Bandi in north Kashmir's Uri town have expressed concern over the land slipping in the area. 
Locals told Greater Kashmir that recent snow fall in the area has given rise to land slipping at Bandi. "Soon after the snow fall, huge cracks appeared and land at several places in our area is slipping. Some of the residential houses have developed cracks due to this phenomenon," they added.
"Around 20 residential houses face immediate risk of damage. We appeal to district administration to take immediate steps so that safety of the people is guaranteed," said Amir Hussain Khan of Bandi Uri. Meanwhile, Tehsildar Boniyar while said that there is no immediate threat to the life and property. "Despite, some cracks on the land surface at Bandi, there is no threat to the life and property. We visited the area today and took stock of the situation. We are assessing behaviour of the land," he added.

Befuddled Uri town locals, at a loss to explain the cracking and falling away of the terrain, beneath their very feet, are erroneously pointing accusing fingers at snow as the likely perpetrator, the villain which is breaking up the ground. Well that is patently ridiculous, as if snow never fell on there before. No, I am here to, on behalf of said snow, enter a plea of not guilty. That is a bum rap, and nonsensical premise.

Of course one cannot blame locals for their misapprehensions.They are sadly uninformed. How could they know of the incoming giant?
