A new island has risen from nothing within a few days.

The increase in volcanic activity all over the world is frightening.

East of the Indonesian island Java, in the sea between Java and Bali, a new island has risen from nothing within a few days. It is probably of volcanic origin. The location is not so very far from Tambora.

West of Java the Anak Krakatoa is active, in the middle of Java the Merapi is very active and east of Java a new island has appeared in the sea, which wasn't there a few days ago. The fear of a coming mega-eruption is real.

I think we are into the seven already, the natural disasters happening around indonesia are incredible, volcanos tsunamis floods and earthquakes all at the same time, this is just incredible to see and read about, with one of the largest populations in the world this is shaping up quickly to be a terrible disaster. i pray for all these people and wish them the very best.

that photo + story so reminded me of the birth of volcanic island Surtsey, off the coast of Iceland back in the early sixties.... Surtsey is still on the map, but other tinier islands have popped up and washed away again...
here´s a link : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surtsey

if western edge of Indonesian 'tongue' was to start to subduct under that edge of Indo-Australian that encircles it - its eastern edge could probably pop up a bit!

wow!

"PENGEMBENGAN, KOMPAS.com - Mounds that resemble a pile of rocks called "The Children of the Mountain" are reported to have arisen in marine waters off the district of Jembrana, Bali.

Some fisherman from the village of Pengambengan, Jembrana, Wednesday (11/03/2010) mentioned that it appears (similar to) the mysterious coral mound in the middle of the sea that separates the island of Java and Bali.

Fishermen thought it was similar to Deken Point, namely the rock that emerged in the area of shallow water.

The location of the "Children of the Mountain," which from Pengambengan takes two to three hours, led to anxiety from citizens. They worry that the mound is the peak of the volcano.

Saihu, Pengambengan Village residents said many people (guessed) if the mysterious mound that emerged was the volcano.

Allegations arose because the mound was conical shape like the top of the mountain."

This is compelling testimony to what's happening right now in Indonesia.
