Active volcanoes (Sep 28, 2012)

"Of course all volcanoes will explode, as this is going to be a very severe pole shift. What about the months and years preceding the pole shift? It is no secret that Mammoth Lake and the caldera of Yellowstone are warming up, and the populace has been prepared for these occurrences by the movie Volcano where there, in the middle of LA, lava is bubbling up. In fact, there is a fault line running from the approximate San Diego/LA area, up into the Sierras, and this is liable to rupture rather violently during one of the quakes that precedes the pole shift by some months. Volcanic eruptions from that area in the Sierras can be expected. Will Mount St. Helen erupt? All volcanoes that have been active within the memory of man will begin spewing and burping and oozing, and many that were not expected to become active will reactive. "   ZetaTalk - Feb 15, 2000

Chile, Hudson volcano stirs up, Chile evacuates residents

Chile’s government said on Wednesday that it’s evacuating around 100 residents within 25 miles of the Hudson volcano after the volcano began to stir up. On Wednesday, the Hudson volcano began to show signs of a possible imminent eruption after it rocketed a jet of steam roughly half a mile into the air. Seismic activity related to the volcano also began to pick up on Wednesday, one of which caused an avalanche in the area. “We can’t rule out that this volcanic activity could increase in the coming hours and produce an eruption,” said Interior Minister Rodrigo Hinzpeter. If the Hudson volcano erupts, and officials believe it is possible that it will, it will be one of a string of volcanoes to erupt over the past several years in Chile, the government said. A volcano erupted in June of this year, which followed an eruption of the long-dormant Chaiten volcano in 2008. The Hudson volcano is part of one of about 2,000 volcanoes in Chile. The last time the Hudson volcano erupted was in August of 1991. It caused millions in damages, mostly to local farms.

Indonesia, Mt. Lokon - Mt.Lokon erupted again, now spewing incandescent materials up to a height of 1,200 meters (3,930 feet)

INDONESIA's Mount Lokon erupted again on Wednesday afternoon after showing increased volcanic activity since the day before, officials said on Thursday. Mount Lokon, which is located on the northern tip of the island of Sulawesi, is now spewing incandescent materials up to a height of 1,200 meters (3,930 feet), Farid Ruskanda Bina, head of the Mount Lokon observation post in Tomohon, told the Antara news agency. Farid said the eruption came shortly after increased seismic activity was recorded, while Volcanology and Geology Disaster Mitigation Center chief Surono noted that Mount Lokon is one of the two Indonesian volcanoes currently on Alert Level 3, which is also known as "Siaga" in the country. The other volcano on Siaga status is Mount Ibu in North Maluku. Both volcanoes are currently considered the most worrisome in the country since they have been consistently erupting ash clouds which reach up to 2.5 kilometers (1.5 mile) high. However, Surono said the eruptions have not placed local residents in danger. Nonetheless, Surono noted that unlike developed countries such as Japan, where each monitoring expert is assigned one volcano, in Indonesia, each expert has to monitor five volcanoes, making it more difficult to anticipate such natural disasters.

The center has adopted four levels of alert status: "Normal" (Level 1), "Waspada" (Level 2), "Siaga" (Level 3) and "Awas" (Level 4). On August 17, Mount Lokon began to spew volcanic ash which fell as far away as the Kinilow I village and the Tinoor areas in North Tomohon sub district, which is a short distance from Lokon's crater. And on August 28, Mount Lokon erupted as many as 12 times, followed by constant volcanic activity in the following weeks. Dozens of active volcanoes in Indonesia are part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, known for frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Next to Mount Lokon is its volcanic twin, Mount Empung, just 2.2 kilometers (1.3 miles) away. One of Indonesia's most active volcanoes is Mount Merapi, which is located on the island of Java near Jogjakarta, the country's second-most visited area after Bali. Last year, more than 300 people were killed in a series of eruptions between October and November which also displaced over 300,000 people.

Bolivia, more Uturuncu volcano news:  Inflating With Astonishing Speed / Is she about to blow? Scientists investigate riddle of rapidly inflating volcano

Why is a South American volcano rapidly expanding?

It is a mystery that a team of scientists working in Bolivia are hoping to solve.

According to Shan de Silva, an Oregon State University professor studying the volcano, the 43 mile-wide disc of expanding land around Uturuncu is "one of the fastest uplifting volcanic areas on Earth."....

A previously dormant South American volcano is inflating with astonishing speed, scientists have discovered.

Researchers from several U.S. universities say Uturuncu, which rises 6,000 meters in southwest Bolivia, is blowing up like a big balloon as its magma chamber grows around 10 times faster than normal.

'It's one of the fastest uplifting volcanic areas on Earth,' said Oregon State University professor, Shan de Silva.

Turkey fears volcano eruption

Turkish seismologists fear that the earthquakes that hit the province of Van on October 23 can cause eruption of Nemrut volcano located northwards of Lake Van.

Mt. Nemrut is near Tatvan, a small town in the eastern Anatolian province of Bitlis. The mountain rises from the southwestern shore of Lake Van, and enters the district of Ahlat to the north.
At least 217 were killed and more than 1,000 people injured when a powerful earthquake struck Turkey, collapsing dozens of buildings and pulling down phone and power lines in the southeast of the country, officials and witnesses said. More than 1,000 people are feared killed in the earthquake.
Another magnitude 6.1 earthquake, which was the second to rock the country in the past 24 hours, was registered about 20 km (12 miles) from the city of Van at the depth of some 10 km (6.2 miles).

EL HIERRO- CANARIAS
The tremor signal grows again while increasing the shaking Saturday October 22, 2011

At 10:38 hours the islanders felt an earthquake of 2.8 magnitude on the Richter scale

ACNPRESS The volcanic tremor again raises his intensity on the island of El Hierro after introducing small variations in the intensity of its vibration in recent days. It also increases the frequency and magnitude of earthquakes, which from the early hours of Saturday until 14:00 hours and amounted to 19.

According to the National Geographic Institute detected, at 10:38 hours the islanders felt an earthquake of 2.8 magnitude on the Richter scale occurred 21 kilometers depth northwest of Frontera the very epicenter of all tremors but two of which occurred in the area known as “Atlántico-Canarias”.

The next most important in magnitude was detected at 13:36 pm today, Northwest of Frontera also at a depth of 22 kilometers. The remaining are around two orders of magnitude in almost all cases.

EL HIERRO- CANARIAS recorded an earthquake of 2.6 degrees felt Friday October 21, 2011

Volcanic tremor signal continues to moderate. The latest earthquakes are mostly registered northwest of Frontera.

ACNPRESS The population of El Hierro has become to feel a tremor in this case of 2.6 magnitude on the Richter scale, which was preceded on Friday by four earthquakes, all of intensity less than 1.8 degrees .

The main quake occurred at 10:36 hours and about 24 miles deep, north-west Frontera, specifically in the area of small seismic swarm was detected in recent days in the center of Valle del Golfo, at its marine part.
The other occurred at similar depths in excess of 20 kilometers and in the same area except one, whose epicenter was located southwest of El Pinar, at a depth of 17 kilometers.
On the other hand, the Association Volcano Canarias Islands (Avcan) mentions on its Facebook page, ´Actualidad Volcánica de Canarias´the " impressive lineup "of eight of the nine earthquakes in the northwest and southeast axis (NNW-SSE), where práctically is located all volcanic seismic activity these days.
Besides, still detected a "significant" sign of tremor, which continues with little variation and events "long period", which experts generally attributed to an active role of fluids within the volcanic conduits, caused by resonance effects or flow instability.
Also, note that the latest data from the National Geographic Institute (IGN) show that seismic activity continues to "moderate, with some moderate earthquakes located in low magnitude," too deep.

Hawai, Mauna Kea volcano - Earthquake swarm

Since early yesterday (Hawaii time), the volcano has experienced at least 38 earthquakes, some as large at M4.5, all centered NW of the main summit of Mauna Kea, all at depths between 14-19 km (see below), all below the crust under the Big Island. This is what a suspicious swarm looks like, where we have a strong focus of seismicity at depth under an active volcano ....
